He was often called by the local king to advice on matters related to the economy. His reputation had spread as far as Taxila in the North and Kanchi in the South So it hurt him very much when the village headman told him, "You may be a great mathematician who advises the king on economic matters but your son does not know the value of gold or silver." The mathematician called his son and asked, "What is more valuable - gold or silver?" "Gold," said the son. "That is correct. Why is it then that the village headman makes fun of you, claims you do not know the value of gold or silver? He teases me every day. He mocks me before other village elders as a father who neglects his son. This hurts me. I feel everyone in the village is laughing behind my back because you do not know what is more valuable, gold or silver. Explain this to me, son." So the son of the mathematician told his father the reason why the village headman carried this impression. "Every day on my way to school, the village headman calls me to his house. There, in front of all village elders, he holds out a silver coin in one hand and a gold coin in other. He asks me to pick up the more valuable coin. I pick the silver coin. He laughs, the elders jeer, everyone makes fun of me. And then I go to school. This happens every day. That is why they tell you I do not know the value of gold or silver." The father was confused. His son knew the value of gold and silver, and yet when asked to choose between a gold coin and silver coin always picked the silver coin. "Why don't you pick up the gold coin?" he asked. In response, the son took the father to his room and showed him a box. In the box were at least a hundred silver coins. Turning to his father, the mathematician’s son said, "The day I pick up the gold coin the game will stop. They will stop having fun and I will stop making money." The bottom line is: Sometimes in life, we have to play the fool because our seniors and our peers, and sometimes even our juniors like it. That does not mean we lose in the game of life. It just means allowing others to win in one arena of the game, while we win in the other arena of the game. We have to choose which arena matters to us and which arenas do not. There are varying legends of the shehnai's origin. In one of these, some shah initially banned the playing of the pungi in his court due to its shrill sound. A barber, belonging to a family of musicians, improved on it and created the shehnai. As it was played in the Shah's court and giving due reference to the nai or barber, the new instrument was called shehnai. Shehnai is usually played at traditional North Indian weddings and is associated with the bride leaving her parental house for her husband's house. Sometimes, two shehnais can be tied together, making it a double shawm similar to the ancient Greek aulos. Whereas the counterparts played in West Indian and Coastal Karnatka are indigenous to the territory.Shenai players were/are an integral part of Goan and other Konkani temples along the coast and the players are called as Vajantri and they were alloted lands for services rendered for the temples. This tube-like instrument gradually broadens towards the lower end. It usually has between six and nine holes. It employs two sets of double reeds, making it a quadruple reed woodwind. By controlling the breath, various tunes can be played on it. Ustad (Master) Bismillah Khan was a well-known shehnai player. Infy as always leads the list of companies that come out with results soon after the quarter ends. Infy results did not show promise to the market. The stock crashed 10% in 2 days after results were announced. It came down from 3000 to 2750. Though market seems to have downward bias all thru the beginning of this year, it has not been able to do so to surprise many chartists or those who strictly follow charts (Technicals). Market has time and again showed resilience at 5400 nifty and 17500 Sensex levels. It is hard to understand specifics as the index is a result of many many happenings around the globe. Market is not getting good clues on account of sovereign defaults. Greece situation does not seem to end. Spain is not too far though they did well in the recent stress test. Italy showed zero failure in the test. US too does not have a good news in it’s debt. It now exceeds it’s GDP. Despite global financial bad news, I would say India has not done too bad on it’s financial performance. We would have done a lot better if we had cleaner system. Our market digests worst of the scams, terror attacks with great resilience. We are getting thick skinned for sure. We are cooler than ever. Is that a good news or bad? Only time will tell. Crompton Greeves results disappointed market to an extent that stock tumbled 20% in 2 days. That is wiping away 2000 crore of market cap in 2 days. Yet, overall market looks solid and moved sideways. Now, you will ask me what is next for the markets. My answer would be – as always – I do not care whether It goes up or down. Money is made each day if you get it right. Falling market gives you money too. To find out how, contact our derivatives (Futures and Options) experts now. We have Nilesh Keshkamat and Nikhil Dev who are experts in the area. We (group of 10 add mmabudhabians) have also started a group called TAAbudhabi (Technical taDjaaoD ho AayauYyaataM dusar naava Aaho. paana : 23 Analysts of Abudhabi) on yahoo groups. Anyone can become a member and read the technical views of individuals in the group. Nilesh initiated actions so that there are many experts right here and can tell you what will happen to stock just by looking at it. Isn’t it amazing? I have been always doing FA (Fundamental Analysis) all my 25 years of investing career. But, I have now started looking at charts. I now combine FA with TA to arrive at buying or selling decisions. Coming back to marker as such, the reason I say that I do not care about index movement, is that, India has thousands of companies out of which at least 1000 are great companies. I mean that they have good managements (ex – Infy, TCS etc.), they have sustained business model (banking sector, maruti motors etc.) , they have large promoter holding, they have shown years of sustained topline and bottom-line growth, they have paid good dividends to investors (Hero Honda etc.) and are constantly adopting to changes in market needs and technology. Therefore, there is no dearth of great stocks. These stocks will not go down even if market crashes. They will go down only slightly because of general sentiment and generally shows the panic of retail investors like you and me. Remember, institutions will not panic and offload good stocks, unless they wish to book profits. My top picks would still remain PSU mid cap banks with Dena, UCO, Syndicate and Central topping the list. All these are in the range to 90-120. I expect these to hit 1000 in no more than 5 years. All these alongwith the entire banking pack has grown year after year with 25% topline growth and 25 or more % bottom-line growth. I am actually diluting my stakes in all other industries and converting them to banking. Interest rates are likely to be steady during the remainder of the year which is going to be good news. Oil price shock has been absorbed already. However, consumer goods industry is facing tough time due to lag effect of rate rises by RBI over pas t9 months. I would recommend staying away from CG for some time. But get back in next 405 months again for cyclical upturn. Car mfrs also will follow the same trend. Basically all industries which are dependent on personal finance will be affected in short term. Real Estate is also seen suffering. sagaLoca inaNa-ya manaanao Gao{] naka; kahI inaNa-ya bauQdIlaahI Gao{] Va. paana : 24 There was good news on credit lines being opened for state SEBs (State Elect. Boards). This will boost the power sector in general and distribution cos in particular. One needs to pick the best in the sector. Cement will be subdued across India due to monsoon. One can get into these stocks if you look at charts. Charts will provide a seasonal trend as well for you to pick up the yearly bottoms. That is all for now. Good luck. IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE TIME AWAY FROM THEIR CHILDREN. However, babies and children under 13 cannot take of themselves, so you should never them home alone – even fir a few minutes. Children can be hurt and killed by fire, drowning, poisoning, falls and other causes other if they are left home alone. TO PROTECT YOUR CHILD: If you leave the house, even for a minute, take young children with you or get a responsible adult with them. A child under 13 should not be left alone to take care of a younger child, even if it’s brother or sister. If your child is 13 or older, have them a babysitting course so they will know what to do if there is an emergency.
