SP-ED Pairing Program
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING COMP 491 ENGINEERING DESIGN Objective: To transfer theoretical knowledge of Computer Engineering students into real-life project development, design, implementation and management. To improve communication, teamwork and presentation skills. To discuss and consider ethics and intellectual property related issues. Expected Schedule: Week1: Engineering design academic coordinator will meet with all senior Computer Engineering students on the first Wednesday of the fall semester. (Meeting time/place will be announced.) Week1: A database of faculty advisors and potential project ideas will be posted on the CE website. Week1: Each group of students will talk about project ideas of their own or faculty with the faculty. Students can find the matching advisor/faculty to their project ideas from the following area of expertise list. Week1: Each group of students will submit the COMP 491 Registration Form to engineering design academic coordinator by the first Friday of the fall semester. Week2-3: Each group of students will submit the COMP 491 Engineering Design Project proposal to the academic coordinator and project advisor by the third Friday of the fall semester. (Proposal template is available on the CE website.) Week3-14: Students, faculty advisors and academic coordinator will meet and discuss student progress on a need basis during the semester. We expect that the project team may spend about 2-4 hours per month to discuss project progress. Week14: At the end of the semester, students will present their work in the form of posters and a brief talk on a Computer Engineering Design Project Workshop day. The students will be evaluated by the COMP 491 Engineering Design Project Evaluation Committee. Week14: After a successful poster presentation, each project group will submit a final Engineering Design Project Report to the faculty advisor and academic coordinator by the last day of final exams of the fall semester.
