BIOGRAPHY
Gultekin Gurdal is a professional librarian with a wide range of skills especially in
electronic librarianship area, including electronic library management, library
systems, web page design, online databases, eJournals and eBooks, multimedia
hardware and applications. He also experienced in library buildings and design, and
operations planning. He is recently working on the library management, performance
measurement, marketing of information services issues. He also serves as the
Chairman of the Turkish University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS). It is one of the
biggest consortiums in Europe and Middle East with over 140 member institutions,
dealing with more than 60 international publishers.
Gultekin has been Library Director at Izmir High Institute of Technology (IYTE) since
2005. He previously held positions at Bilkent University, Turkish Scientific Technical
Research Organization, Sabanci University and TOBB University. Gultekin’s career
includes leadership roles at IYTE where he was recruited as a director of the library
to handle to set up a library for the institution and led complex library system
implementation and various web 2.0 applications.
Gultekin holds a Bachelor of Library Science from Hacettepe University and MBA
degree from Kocaeli University. He maintains active membership with the following
organizations; Turkish Librarians Association, University Librarians’ Association,
ANKOS Boards. He has published in local and international titles including Serials,
titled ‘The story of "Periodicals Button" on the Information Center web site’. He also
delivered papers at various conferences; his topics include user centered library web
pages, new technologies, scholarly communications and information management,
performance measurements, eReference applications. He also serves on the
advisory boards of a number of publishers and plays an active part in meetings and
workshops especially in electronic publishing area. He is also one of the international
Editorial Board Member of UKSG “Serials Journal”.
In his spare time, Gultekin enjoys spending time with his 2 years old daughter. He is
also a proud father of 17 years old son who followed his footsteps to become a
librarian and studies library science at a university.
