BIO GRAPHY
Hasan Hüseyin Yıldırım graduated from the School of Health Administration (Hacettepe University,
Ankara, Turkey) with the highest GPA in 1996. Dr Yıldırım holds an MSc and a PhD in Management of
Health Institutions from the Hacettepe University. Dr Yıldırım was a Visiting Research Associate at LSE
Health as a British Council Chevening Scholar in 2005-2006 conducting research on the “impact of European
Union health policies on the Turkish health policies and system”. Dr. Yıldırım is currently an Associate
Professor of Health Policy and Management at Hacettepe University Faculty of Economics and
Administrative Sciences Department of Healthcare Management, Ankara, Turkey and also the founder and
director of ABSAM Health Research Centre (www.absam.com.tr) located in Hacettepe Technopolis in
Ankara, Turkey.
Dr Yıldırım is a Board Member of European Health Management Association (EHMA), Belgium; member of
Advisers Board of International Healthcare Research Centre, USA; adviser of TOBB Turkish Health
Institutions Council (TOBB/The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey), Turkey; and
founder and editor of ABSAĞLIK (www.absaglik.com) which is the first and only web site in Turkey devoted
to "European Union, health and health policies".
Dr Yıldırım served as an expert in the “Parliamentary Research Committee on Violence against Healthcare
Workers in Turkey” and in the “Parliamentary Research Committee on Soma Coal Mines Accident, Turkey”
established under the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) in 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 respectively.
Dr Yıldırım's research and studies focus on health policy, economics and management issues relating to
health, healthcare and health systems. Specializing in the field of EU health and health policies, Dr Yıldırım
has a number of national and international publications, presentations, consultings and projects.
Dr Yıldırım has worked on the “Health PROMeTHEUS: Health Professional Mobility in European Union
Study” project, which was funded under the 7th EU Framework Programme, as a country correspondent of
Turkey; and on the “Turkish Health Literacy Survey”, commissioned by Sağlık-Sen, as a team member of the
project. Dr Yıldırım is currently working on five projects on behalf of ABSAM, titled “Developing and
Implementing Health Tourism Composite Index”; “Review of Turkish Health System”; “Efficiency and
Productivity Analysis of the Turkish Health System”; “Measurement and Determinants of Health Poverty in
Turkey”; and “To What Extent is Turkey 'European’ in its Health and Healthcare System?”
Courses: Global health diplomacy, health tourism, health policies and planning, health policy analysis, EU
health policies and systems, health literacy, pharmaceutical and medical devices policies, health insurance
and reimbursement systems, health sociology, comparative health policies and systems, social policy, health
economics, hospital management and healthcare management.
Areas of interest: Policy, economics and management dimensions of health, healthcare and health systems.
