COURSE INFORMATION COURSE TYPE and LEVEL: Required : Elective : Core : Related : Minor : Elementary (Basic): Intermediate : Advanced: Specialized: SUMMARY OF INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES: To teach the history of modern Turkish history, Atatürk’s Principles and the history of Turkish renovation SUMMARY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS: Only undergraduate students are accepted for the course STUDENT WORK LOAD: Hours Lectures 26 Seminars 0 Classes 0 Tutorials 0 Fieldwork 0 Other 0 Private Study 0 TOTAL 26 a) SUMMARY OF ASSESSMENT METHODS: Written Research Proposal and Written Examination. The class meets for two lectures a week, each consisting of two 50-minute sessions and a Problem session of 50-minute duration. 6-7 sets of homework problems are assigned per semester. Homework is not collected but similar problems are asked in announced quizzes. There are two in-class mid-term exams and a final exam. b) ASSESSMENT ARRANGEMENTS: Overall Breakdown: Examination: 30% + 70% Element 1 1 hour unseen examination paper 30% Final Exam 1 hour unseen examination paper 70% POLICIES: Attendance: Students are required to attend all classes and to submit their essays and assignments on time. The more you participate, the more you will learn - and only you can learn the material - I cannot learn it for you. So participate in class! Use my office hours! Use email to ask questions! You are expected to do the assigned readings before coming to class. Readings are listed at the end of page. You should read these critically, asking questions as you go - What does this mean (do I understand it)? Why is it important to the study of research methodologies? When and how would I use this information? How does this information relate to other information we've learned in class (or in other classes)? As you do the assigned readings, ask yourself the following questions: What did I learn that I didn't know before? What did I already know, but gained a better understanding of? What am I still confused about? Lateness: Late attendances and submission will be not accepted. Students should not ask for exceptions.
