EE 910 Computer Networks (3+0) 3 Ders Özeti Ders Amacı Ders Sonucu Definition, uses, classification and topologies of computer networks. Multiple access methods. Layered network structure. OSI and TCP/IP Reference models. Example networks. Network standardization. Basics of data transmission. Data communication services (SMDS, X.25, FR, ISDN, ATM, BISDN). Physical layer; types of transmission medium; RS-232, RS-449, X.21, ISDN and V.35 interfaces. Functions of data link layer, framing, flow control, error control; HDLC, SLIP and PPP protocols. Medium access control (MAC) sublayer. Repeaters, bridges, LAN switches, routers, brouters, layer-3 switches, gateways. Routing Algorithms. The objective of this course is to develop an understanding of the concepts, architectures, protocols, methods and devices used in various types of computer networks, and also to provide familiarity with the standards and applications of computer networks.
