SOMALIA NUTRITION CLUSTER Minutes of Middle and Lower Shabelle Sub National Nutrition Cluster Meeting 24 March, 2013, 10.40 am, UNICEF- Conference Room, Airport road, Wadajir Mogadishu, Somalia. 1) Welcome and Introduction: The meeting was chaired by the Abdullahi Nur Aden (Sub-national Cluster Focal Point). Introductions of present participants and sharing agenda of the meeting were done. 2) Review and endorsement of the previous cluster meeting minutes and follow-up on action points: The previous minutes for 24th February 2013 meeting were reviewed and endorsed as correct. The action points were also followed up accordingly. See the status of the action on page 6 of the minutes. 3) Key agencies/ organizations programme updates: The security situation: The security situation in Lower Shabelle which has quite improved for the past 3-4 months; however insecurity situation has been prevailing specially around the street that links El-waregow to Mogadishu, and roughly 40 plus illegal check points had been reported. SRC was in partnership with Mulrany International (MI) from the beginning of 2012 but they separated in December 2012. Together; they had been running 5 Health and Nutrition Centres in Aden-yabal. MI is now looking for a new local NGO to resume the activities. SWISSO-KALMO reported to have started their TSFPs programmes in Merka district and surrounding villages. The distribution of the family rations and individual effectively started from 21st March 2013. CISP in consortium with FERO and Relief International will conduct Health and Nutrition Assessment in Belet-Weyne, Merka and Kismayo from 6th to 9th of April 2013. WOCCA reported that the admiration in Adale district had shut down the Nutrition centre of WOCCA in Adale. Besides; their former MCH in Balad is now functional. SORRDO conducted IMAM training for the 17 TSFP staff of different levels, Nurses, Auxiliary Nurses, Community Health educators and other supportive staff (registrars, measures). It was started from 15th to 18th March 2013 in Afgooye district. Pictures taken during the IMAM training by SORRDO Action Point: Circulate SORRDO IMAM training report conducted in Afgooye to the Sub-national Nutrition Cluster Members. 4) FSNAU Deyr 2012/2013Nutrition Assessment in Afgooye: Due to the challenging security situation in Middle and Lower Shabelle FSNAU did not managed to conduct any Nutrition assessments in these regions since 2011 except the HMIS data received from Health and Nutrition Partners in the field like COSV, see the below chart. Therefore; FSNAU together with SWISSO-KALMO and other FSNAU partners have conducted Nutrition assessment in Afgooye district in January 2013. The prevalence of GAM rate and the SAM rate 8.7% and 2.1% respectively. This will attract the donor’s attention for funds. FSNAU will conduct a two SMART (Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transition) Methodology Training for the Subnational Nutrition Cluster Partners in Banadir and Middle, Lower Shabelle regions. The training for Banadir will start from 26th of March until 1st April followed by the training for Middle, Lower Shabelle which will start 3rd April to 9th April 2013. Partners requested UNICEF to speed up the release of the supplies to the implementing partners so that to reduce the severity of the condition. In return to this partners were also encouraged to submit their supply to UNICEF Nutrition section timely (within a period of 2 months while your supply in stock to run out). Action Point: UNICEF to speed up the release of supplies to the partners.
