Bring thumb behind, then underneath yarn and bring the right needle towards you to create a closed loop on thumb. Put right needle in loop on thumb from underneath, taking thumb out of the loop and gently tightening loop onto the needle. Rep for correct number of stitches. Flat 3-needle bind off Hold two needles with stitches to be bound off in the left hand, with the WS together and the working yarn between needles. *Using a third needle, go in first stitch on front needle as to knit; with yarn to left of needle, go in back stitch as to purl, with third needle ending up between left needles and behind working yarn. Purl the back stitch, and move needle in a figure-8 to bring new stitch and right needle out of the purl stitch and out through the front stitch from back to front and taking original stitches off needle. Return working yarn between needles and rep from * to get two stitches on right needle. After completing the second stitch, 6 of the left needles to bind use one off the first stitch by bringing it over the second stitch and off right needle. Rep from * to last stitch. Cut yarn and pull through last stitch. Flexible long-tail cast on Note: The top needle is the needle on which you will begin working the piece and the lower is another needle of the same or specified size. You can use yarn from both ends of ball or from two balls. Put a slip knot made from the yarn that will go over forefinger on the top needle. Pick up lower needle and hold it below top needle with slip knot between them. *Hold both yarn ends as for a long-tail cast on in left hand. Go up in thumb loop with both needles.
