Meskhetian Turks are an ethnic group originally from
the Southern region of Georgia called Meskhetia,
which borders with Turkey.
Together with other 7 ethnic groups of the former
USSR, Meskhetian Turks were deported to Central
Asia by Stalin in 1944. In 1989, following the pogrom
of Fergana Valley, 90 thousand of the 100 thousand
Meskhetian Turks living in Uzbekistan were forced to
migrate again. The ones who resettled in the Russian
region of Krasnodar faced civil rights abuse, which
paved the way to a third relocation, this time to the
United States, where, since 2004, 12 thousand
Meskhetian Turks have been granted refugee status.
Among the ethnic groups displaced by Stalin, only
the Meskhetian Turks still have not been allowed to
return to their motherland.

“Water Wars”
Its nearly impossible to keep dry at Songran Festival
in Thailand, the land of smile. Water wars with super
soakers going on between the locals and the
foreigners to celebrate the new year at every corner
of the tiny island is great fun.

“Hidden (Camouflage)”
Hidden is the heading for the first of the ten field
categories in (in)AUTHENTIC: Woman, War, Jew.
Tank; The main purpose of the camouflage pattern
that is painted on the tank is to disguise and to hide
it. Another underlying intent for camouflaging the tank
is to induce "tank fright"; confusion and uncertainty.
Hairstyle; The image of the "shield" hairstyle veils an
image of Mare Alehegn who has had surgery for
trachoma .at a clinic in Alember, Ethiopia. She is led
by her daughter Eatnesh, 16. Trachoma is a
generational scourge among women. Mothers
become infected through contact with their children's
seeping eyes or from hungry feeding flies.
Alchemical Image; The alchemical image of the skull
is the symbol of the mortificatio of Eve. She
represents the feminine aspect of primal matter. The
alchemical image overlays an illustration of
Mitochondrial DNA. This DNA is a separate genome
set found only in women, crowning them with the
power of (cellular) energy.
Summary Only inherited from the mother, the
mitochondrion is involved in over100 diseases. For
example, when an inner membrane fusion goes
wrong, a neurodegenerative disease affects the eye.

In this work I merged a painting into a digital medium.
I set out to bring about a unity of colour and
movement within opposites while building upon the
design withing the picture. I want the viewer to
observe the compatability of these great loves of
mine: my painting and my dear daughter Lara.
