(Japanese) I (You, He, She, We, They, etc.) went to Kobe. NB The two sentences here are “tricky”. Actually Turkish and Japanese don’t carry exactly the same meaning, because (1)Japanese verbs don’t conjugate according to person. Moreover, it is quite common for Japanese to omit the subject. It is the context that determines who or what the subject is. Thus the subject of the Japanese sentence here is not limited to the third person. (2) Turkish “-mişti” and Japanese “-mashita” look alike but they are quite different in function. The former focuses on the tense (i.e. pluperfect ) while the latter on the speaker’s attitude towards the listener (i.e. politeness). “Ikimashita(行きました)” implies that it is more polite than the corresponding plain form “itta(行った)”. (3) Japanese doesn’t share the same concept of tense with Turkish or many other languages. In fact, it is not based on tense but two aspects: perfective and imperfective aspects. Here, “ikimashita” implies the action of going was completed or has been completed. That is, the sentence is expressed in perfective aspect. Japanese doesn’t distinguish the past tense from the perfect tense, much less the pluperfect. 1 2 Türkçe neden 日本語 nande (なぜ) English why 3 Türkçe Ali karınca 日本語 Ari (アリ) ari English a male name ant Türkçe amma masaj 日本語 shikashi (しかし) amma (あんま) English but massage Türkçe Anadolu önemsememek 日本語 Anatoria (アナトリア) anadoru (侮る) English Anatolia make little of , despise Türkçe Ankara, kuğu ilk olarak an ezmesi yemek 日本語 Ankara(アンカラ),hakuchō(白鳥) an-kara kū (餡から食う) English Ankara, swan to eat sweet bean paste first Türkçe aşağı yukarı --- 日本語 oyoso (およそ) Asai Yukari (浅井ゆかり) English approximately a female name Türkçe ay sevgi 日本語 tsuki(月) ai (愛) English a female name love Türkçe Aysu dondurma / sevmek 日本語 Aisu (アイス) aisu (アイス/ 愛す) English a female name ice cream / to love Türkçe bakan cinsel kışkırtıcı bir söz 日本語 kokumudaijin(国務大臣) bakan (ばかーん) English state secretary a sexually provocative word uttered by a (アリ) 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 female 2 11 Türkçe Bora dubar 日本語 Bora (ボラ) bora (ボラ) English a male name flathead mullet (Mugil cephalus) Türkçe Eda ağaç dalı 日本語 Eda (エダ) eda (枝) English a female name branch Türkçe Eray hayranlık uyandıran 日本語 Erai (エライ) erai (偉い) English a male name great, admirable Türkçe fırsat memleket 日本語 kikai (機会) furusato (ふるさと) English opportunity hometown Türkçe halel şişmek 日本語 kizu (傷) hareru (腫れる) English injury to swell Türkçe Hasan iflas 日本語 Hasan (ハサン) hasan (破産) English a male name bankruptcy hırçın bir erkek veya erkek çocuk kendi cinsel 12 13 14 15 16 17 Türkçe organını açıkça sergileyen bir durum 日本語 fukigen-na (不機嫌な) furuchin (ふるちん) English ill-tempered a condition where a man or a boy exhibits his own genitals 18 Türkçe iken fikir, düşünce 日本語 ~toki (~とき) iken (意見 English when (conj.) opinion 3 19 Türkçe kaba su aygırı 日本語 burei-na (無礼な) kaba (カバ) English ill-mannered hippo Türkçe manzara beklenilenden daha iyi 日本語 fūkei (風景) manzara(まんざら) English landscape (used with a negative) 20 better than expected not altogether bad 21 Türkçe Mine dağ başı 日本語 Mine (ミネ) mine (峰) English a female name mountain top Türkçe nara -- 日本語 ōgoe (大声) Nara (奈良) English yell a city name Türkçe nara yellenme 日本語 ōgoe (大声) onara (おなら) English yell fart Türkçe Okan annem (Osaka lehçesi) 日本語 Okan (オカン) okan (おかん) English a male name my mom in Osaka dialect Türkçe rüya --- 日本語 yume (夢) Ryūya (竜也) English dream a male name meaning “dragon” Türkçe sarı maymun 日本語 kiiro (黄色) saru (サル) English yellow monkey 22 23 24 25 26 4 27 Türkçe sözcük vaktinden önce 日本語 kotoba (言葉) sōjuku (早熟) English word premature Türkçe yol gece 日本語 dōro (道路) yoru (夜) English road night Türkçe yüz bir tür narenciye 日本語 hyaku(百) yuzu (ゆず) English one hundred a kind of fruit Türkçe yüzbaşı,kamarot Japonya’daki bir elektronik zincir mağazası 日本語 kyaputen(キャプテン) Yodobashi Kamera (ヨドバシカメラ) 28 29 30 kyakuseki-jōmuin(客席乗務員) English captain, ship steward an electronics retailer 5
