Month of the Rosary October is commonly known as the month of the Rosary with the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary celebrated on October 7th. This feast day was established by Pope Saint Pius V on the anniversary of a naval victory over the Turks, won by the Christian fleet at Lepanto on October 7, 1571. The victory was attributed to the help of Mary, the Mother of God, whose aid was invoked through praying the Rosary. Pope Clement XI extended the feast to the universal Church in 1716. The purpose of the Rosary is to help us meditate on the great mysteries of our salvation. Pope Pius XII called the Rosary a “compendium of the Gospel.” Pope Saint John Paul II enriched the meditations of the Rosary with the addition of the Luminious mysteries in 2002. “The rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christ-centered prayer. It has all the depth of the gospel message in its entirety.” (Pope John Paul II, apostolic letter The Rosary of the Virgin Mary) May this month of October be a time of renewal for families and individuals in praying the Rosary. 2nd Grade First Reconciliation Parent Meeting nd 2 graders do not need to attend the meeting Wednesday, October 8th at 4:30 or 6:30 p.m. Meet in the Martha & Mary Room.
